FTC has commissioned Indianapolis-based artist Edith Conchas to create a mural for the back of the Basile Collaboration Center. This is the area we use for outdoor events, including our Rice & Beans Festival on September 28, 2024, where the completed mural will be on display.
Edith Conchas specializes in free-handed chalk art for local businesses and paint signage. Examples of her work can be found in murals, prints, and art workshops I have done at places like the Indy Liberation Center. She is a first-generation Latina, with both parents being from Mexico. Her father came to the U.S. to create an art career as a muralist and carpenter, encouraging Edith’s own passion for muralism.
“I am honored to create a design for the Fonseca Theatre,” Edith said. “This design encapsulates the locality and the physical environment of Haughville, a culturally rich neighborhood in Indy’s Near Westside. It’s an homage to the vast representation of cultures, ethnicities, identities, and immigrants that make this neighborhood and is a tribute to the beautiful relationship between our local waterways, the environment, and the community.”
